Arrive 

• By Town Bus: The closest Bus Stops to us are the bus stop at Strathy Rd and Elgin St and the Golden Plough Lodge (corner of Courthouse Rd). For schedules and more information, check out the Public Transit section of the Town of Cobourg’s website. 

• By Car: From the 401, travel south on Burnham Street, turn right onto Elgin Street, then right onto Courthouse Road. NCAM has free parking on the south side of our building.  

• By Train: From the VIA Rail Cobourg Station, head north on Division Street for 1.1km. Turn left onto Elgin Street West and continue for 1.8km. Turn right onto Courthouse Road.

• Our exhibit: Currently we have our inaugural exhibit in our gallery. Come check out Gidinawendimin: “We are all related” from 2026-2027. 

• Our reading room: Whether you’re a researcher, a Northumberland local, or just someone stopping by, our reading room always has something to discover. Check out our What’s On page for programs running.

Explore Northumberland 

• Once you are done at the museum, please check out one (or more!) of the many restaurants, shops, and leisure spaces in Northumberland County. Visit the Northumberland County website. 

• Ask a staff member for their recommendations. They like to share hidden gems in the County! 

Our collection holds many stories and artefacts related to Northumberland County and its municipalities.  Help us take care of our history! 

• Many aspects of our exhibits and collection are interactive, but please respect all barriers and signage you encounter.

• Please assist us in preserving our collection! We ask that you only eat and drink in designated areas, and that food and beverages are not brought into our gallery, collections hall, or processing lab. 

Please help us create a safe and enjoyable experience for all. 

• Respect our staff, other guests, our space, and our collections. We thank everyone for contributing to an experience free of violence, harassment, and disrespect in any form. We will not tolerate damaging or disruptive behaviour. 

• Do not run, shout, or climb in the museum. 

• Visitors must always be fully clothed and wear shoes in NCAM spaces. 

• NCAM is both an archive and a museum. We collect and preserve a diverse collection of records and artefacts from the Northumberland area that can help researchers explore topics from genealogy to local government and more.  

• Our gallery is currently home to its inaugural exhibit, Gidinawendimin. Gidinawendimin is Indigenous-led exhibition that honours the beauty, depth, and resilience of Michi Saagiig culture. 

• Visit Accessibility to learn more about NCAM’s commitment to accessibility. 

• You may meet some of our neighbours from the Golden Plough Lodge (GPL) while you’re here. They make NCAM a part of their home! From time to time, residents and their staff will join us for tours and other programs. Be sure to say hi and introduce yourself! NCAM is a place where people of all ages can connect, learn, and build relationships.

We encourage visitors to leave valuables, large bags, and other personal belongings at home. We do have cubbies available to store any items at your own risk. 

Permitted Items: 

• Strollers, purses, baby bags, and backpacks, though we encourage you to be careful moving throughout the building with these items. We do have a coatroom with cubbies you can store items at your own risk (necessary?). 

• Water bottles: a water station is available at our entrance 

Prohibited Items: 

The following items are not permitted inside the museum at any time: 

• Bikes, scooters, skateboards, helium balloons, indelible markers, drugs or alcohol, any weapons or items prohibited under Canada’s Criminal Code. 

The safety and security of our patrons and staff is foremost. 

• Please follow directions from museum staff and signage. 

• Any individuals demonstrating language or behaviour deemed offensive, abusive, harassing, or threatening towards a guest or staff member will be asked to leave the premises. This includes language or behaviour that promotes hatred or discrimination towards individuals or groups. 

• Smoking or vaping of any kind is prohibited in the museum and on museum grounds. Smoking or vaping within the museum will trigger a fire alarm, for which you may be held accountable. 

• Our space boasts many accessible features. If you have any concerns or recommendations, please contact us at ncam.northumberland.ca. 

• An audio tour of the Gidinewandimin exhibit is available. 

• Service animals are welcome in our space! Due to regulations as a Class “A” facility, other animals are not permitted in the museum.

• Flash photography is not permitted. However, we encourage you to take as many photos as you wish! We simply ask that you be mindful of guests around you and their experience. 

• Photography and video recordings are allowed in our gallery space for personal use. Please tag us in all your posts @NCAMOfficial on Facebook and Instagram, and @NCAM_Official on YouTube. We love to see what you capture and share!
